Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride on course to raise £4.5 million
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is this weekend and there’s still time for you to take part and help save lives. If you’re not familiar with it, the DGR is a global riding initiative that sees riders take to the roads in their finest garb to help raise awareness and money for men’s health issues. Going for six years now, it has raised over £10 million to date. This Sunday more than 120,000 riders in 650 cities across 95 countries will head out, with the target of raising a further £4.5 million in donations. “The past six years have seen The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride grow far more than I ever could have imagined,” says Mark Hawwa, founder of the event. “Working with the Movember Foundation has allowed us to target key concerns in men’s health, helping us change the lives of men and helping them to live longer and happier lives.”
To raise money, the DGR encourages riders to seek sponsorship and offers prizes for the biggest fundraisers including brand new bikes from Triumph and Royal Enfield, as well as clothing from Rev It and Zenith watches. At the time of writing the biggest single fundraiser had raised in excess of £13,500, while the top fundraising ride is good old London town, at £143,000. More importantly it’s not too late for you to get involved – there are plenty of rides up and down the UK and
