Q ‘What’s the law say on cancelled GP?’

‘The surface could be a breach of conditions’

I bought two adult weekend tickets for the British GP plus camping which cost £445 and have been offered a refund for the Sunday entry fee amounting to £180. I am unhappy with this refund and believe that the refund due should be no less than the full amount on the basis that a cancelled concert would give a full refund if the main act did not appear.

AYour first port of call would be the booking terms and conditions which surely has a clause dealing with cancellations and refunds. While one can understand why a race could be cancelled due to adverse weather and thus dangerous conditions for the riders, I understand people have raised question marks over the track surface quality, without which perhaps the race day could have gone ahead safely. This, if correct, could be deemed to be a breach of an implied booking term (as opposed to terms expressly set out within the terms of conditions) that Silverstone would take reasonable steps to ensure deliverance of the contract. This, to me, would include ensuring the track surface was suitable for foreseeable weather conditions.

I cannot comment on any legal obligation to refund or on the extent of refund without seeing what terms customers specifically agreed to when buying the tickets and entering into this contract for provision of entertainment.
