Insane supercharged Triumph Bobber special breaks cover
Hold on tight, it’s a 135bhp supercharged retro wonder
Fancy a Bonneville Bobber Black with the rear wheel power of a Speed Triple and more torque than a Ducati Diavel? Well Triumph Glasgow have created the bike of your dreams and it could be yours right now for £22,995. Based on Triumph’s 1200cc, 76bhp parallel twin cylinder Bobber Black, this monster features just about every Triumph accessory in the book. The custom satin black paintjob is by 8 Ball, the downpipes are wrapped, there are whitewall Avon Cobra tyres, a host of bespoke fabricated parts, a fully adjustable Fox shock and equipment borrowed from other Triumphs, including Speedmaster beach bars and a Thruxton exhaust and screen. Fit and finish puts the standard machine in the shade, but the icing on the cake and that huge hike in performance, comes in the shape of a Rotrex supercharger, fitted by TTS Performance Parts. Triumph Glasgow Managing Director, Martin Rees explained: “The Bobber lends itself to modifications, but we wanted to do something really crazy. We discussed putting a turbo or nitrous on it, but we wanted reliability so landed with this. The motor is stock.”
With such an increase in power you might think it’s an animal, but its low-speed manners are impeccable and fuelling would put Kawasaki’s H2 to shame. Poke it with a stick and it’s another story altogether.
A clacky exhaust note drills into your eardrums as the bike accelerates in a very un-Bobber-like way, but the power delivery is feel-goodlinear. Off the throttle the supercharger hisses on the overrun. The standard chassis, gearbox, clutch and twin brake set-up all cope with the extra power while the Fox shock gives the Bobber a tougher, more composed feel.
This might be a Bobber with a sky-high price, but it’s loaded with serious attitude and the performance to match.
