Yamaha reveals price of its hot new Ténéré 700 at last
Sub-£9K Ténéré 700 set to be the best-value adventure bike
While it feels like Yamaha have been promising us this bike for years, the Japanese firm have only now finally confirmed the price and arrival date of their new Ténéré 700 adventure bike. The first bikes will arrive in the UK in July and will be allocated on a firstcome-first-served basis. Pre-ordering will open 1pm March 27, when Yamaha will offer the T7 for a special introductory price of £8399 (plus OTR). That price is exclusive to online orders and will run until the system closes on July 31. After that the price will revert to the usual RRP of £8699 (plus OTR), with the second batch of bikes arriving in September. The Ténéré 700 is an interesting prospect for Yamaha. Unlike other manufacturers who have taken a high-tech but expensive approach to their middleweight adventure bikes, Yamaha have opted to create something simpler but with a more wallet-friendly price tag. Based on other Yamahas, we could well see the T7 costing under £100 a month on PCP finance.
Just like the competition though, the T7 has been built for genuine off-road adventures so Yamaha have combined the peppy CP2 parallel twin from the MT-07 with a brand new chassis, long-travel suspension and off-road wheels. It also has switchable ABS plus the classic Dakar look while for those who want to take their journey further, Yamaha say there will be a range of accessories available for pre-order with the bike including luggage and ‘rally-orientated items’.
It’s interesting that Yamaha
‘Competition with KTM & BMW will be fierce’
should choose to open orders for their new machine now, rather than waiting until the Ténéré 700 actually arrives in their dealers. Compared to its closest likely competitors, the T7 is relatively late with KTM’s new 790 Adventure and BMW’s updated F850GS and GSA already or imminently available. Competition between these bikes will clearly be fierce so Yamaha are obviously hoping that a tempting offer can convince people to order the T7 now instead of one of its rivals.
