Marquez beaten… again
Although out-fought and out-foxed at the final corner for the second time in two races, Marc Marquez left Silverstone safe in the knowledge a sixth MotoGP crown is now his to lose. Defeated by Andrea Dovizioso at the last turn in Austria, there was more late heartache for the Honda star on Sunday when Alex Rins stole the win in a nail-biting photo finish. But although the 26-year-old lost another titanic battle he’s cruising to winning the war, with Dovizioso’s first turn demise leaving Marquez 78 points clear in the title race.
“I gave everything and the hardest thing to accept is I lost again,” he said afterwards. “I’m not happy about the race but I’m happy for the championship because I increased my lead and am now in a very strong position. I have the mentality of a winner, so if lose on PlayStation I am angry. So I’m angry to lose in the last corner.” Marquez believes Rins could take more risks as he hasn’t the pressure to win the title, saying: “If you’ve nothing to lose you can have a different strategy. But it’s not my goal now to win races. My goal is to win the championship and we’re increasing that advantage. That’s the most important thing.
“I was very fast in the last corner but suddenly both wheels started to slide. Then it’s keep going and try to win or crash. Rins did an amazing last lap but for me it’s very important in a circuit where in the past we struggled a lot to be there again fighting for the victory.”
