‘The BMW GS Experience will add excitement’
As revealed on page eight of this week’s MCN, BMW’s updated S1000XR and the all-new F900 range will make their UK debut on the BMW Motorrad stand at Motorcycle Live in Birmingham’s NEC.
In a highly anticipated update of the best-selling adventuresports bike, the 2020 S1000XR promises to be lighter and more agile than before, to help it achieve an unprecedented combination of longdistance performance and sports capabilities. Meanwhile, additions to BMW’s middleweight range include the new F900R, a sports roadster that’s set to offer precise, dynamic and purist riding pleasure at all times. Plus, there’s the exciting new F900XR - an uncompromising mix of sportiness and touring capability, offering unrivalled dynamics with GS-like ergonomics. Looking to the future, showgoers will be able to get up close to the Vision DC Roadster prototype, BMW Motorrad’s concept of how alternative drive systems might shape the next generation of bikes. Featuring an electrical reimagining of the iconic boxer engine, the Vision DC Roadster offers a distinctive but authentic appeal that is still firmly rooted in the finest BMW tradition. Alongside the full 30-strong line-up of 2020 models, the World of BMW team will also amaze the crowd at the ‘Make Life a Ride’ live action arena. With the UK’s best riding instruction from the BMW Rider Training and BMW Off Road Skills schools, there’s plenty to inspire your next BMW bike purchase or to encourage you to boost your own riding skills.
Broaden your horizons
The BMW GS Experience will add a touch of adventure and excitement, giving visitors a chance to learn some of the handling techniques taught at Simon Pavey’s worldfamous school, using the latest BMW R1250GS. Alternatively, if seeing the world by bike is your thing, the BMW Motorrad Tours team will inspire you to pack your panniers and ride with them, from the Highlands and Islands to the furthest reaches of the globe.
New riders this way
The BMW Rider Training team will be on hand to help novice riders get to grips with the basics of motorcycle control. The BMW Rolling Road lets would-be riders experience the feel of riding and the controls of a motorcycle in a completely safe environment. Using the A2 licence-friendly G310R mounted in a static rig, the Rolling Road is a seamless introduction to throttle and clutch control, giving anyone who has ever dreamt of owning a bike a first taste of riding. Meanwhile, for those with more of a need for speed, sport fans can find out what goes into a race-winning S1000RR by getting up close to BMW’s official Tyco and Smiths Racing S1000RR machines.
