‘Supergran’ Louisa Swaden targets 250mph record bid

Louisa tops 200mph and sets sights on further records in 2020

Speed-chasing granny Louisa Swaden smashed the 200mph barrier on a turbocharged Kawasaki ZX-10R recently and is now setting her sights on some new speed records for 2020. Swaden, 51, and a grandmother of three, demolished her previous personal best by nearly 60mph to clock a terminal speed of 203.224mph on the 450bhp beast loaned to her by Jack Frost of Holeshot Racing.

She told MCN: “Going that fast was a completely different feeling for me. Usually I can sit up and take my time to cruise to a slowdown, but on this thing I was suddenly running out of space to stop. But I loved it and I was delirious when I found out how fast I’d gone. “I’d never ridden a turbo before and it was the last ‘Top Speed Tuesday’ of the year at Elvington and I only had one run, so I just went for it.” Swaden only started straightline racing in May, but has been so bitten by the bug she now has some very big plans for the next 12 months. “Now I’m a member of the 200mph club I want to really push it and I’m aiming for 250mph in 2020. I’ve plans for a new bike, which are secret for now, but I’m totally obsessed and want to see how far I can go.”

The world’s current fastest woman is Brit Becci Ellis who set a blistering 264mph record in 2014 and is also hoping to go faster next year. Swaden, who already holds four UK speed records, added: “It’s looking like 2020 is going to be an incredible year for women’s speed racing and I can’t wait to get going again!”

The blood biker and motorcycle tour guide hopes to get her speed season under way in March and could also compete at the famous Texas Mile event in America.
