● Chat with fellow members gets new riders thinking big

More than 170 bikers have joined the #ride5000miles group since the beginning of December 2019, taking advantage of the amazing advice and brilliant routes shared by their fellow enthusiasts. “It’s bloody brilliant,” David Mosley told MCN. Having joined around four weeks ago, he added: “It’s hugely encouraging and incredibly supportive. Everyone seems to be on point.” With a full year of fun ahead, riders like David are already making plans to take on new challenges in 2020, inspired by posts shared by the proactive members of the 14,500-strong Facebook group. “Joining the group has exponentially increased my mileage,” the Somerset-based Technical Director continued. “I went to West Bay in Dorset recently and I wouldn’t have done without the group. I also did a 180-mile round trip to Loomies Café to see what that was about.”

Another rider getting involved is Hayden Young, 26, who plans to bolster his annual total by becoming a Blood Biker and taking on a riding tour around Scotland aboard his beloved BMW R1250GS. “This group has inspired me and I’ve now contacted my local Blood Biking group,” Hayden told MCN. “To do that, you have to be an advanced rider and I’ve signed up to do the course and I’m due to meet up with my mentor in the coming weeks. “I’ve never been to Scotland either, and it’s the scenery around there that really interests me. Being on the bike is a great way to see nature and be a part of it,” he added. “That will be the furthest north I’ve ridden on a bike.” Elsewhere, bike collecting bus driver, Marianne Myburgh, was invited to the group by a fellow member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association and plans to visit more of Europe on two wheels in 2020, using the detailed words and photos shared by other members of the group as a travel guide. Already covering 12,000 miles last year across Europe and South Africa, she explained: “One of the things I’m keen on is seeing where other people in the group have gone.

“I’ve got a number of trips planned already. I’m hoping I can ask people in the group about the best places to go. It’s much easier than experiencing your own learning curves!”
