illed by Triumph as ‘the greatest Speed Triple ever made’ this year’s RS version certainly takes some beating. The Speed Triple has been a stalwart in Triumph’s range since it was first introduced in 1994. And Triumph are right to champion this simply brilliant roadster as it really can do anything asked of it... and do it pretty damned quickly!

The range-topping RS comes with a mouth-watering spec sheet that includes a TFT dash with six screen styles to choose from, five riding modes, cornering ABS and traction control, a keyless ignition, fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes and even Arrow titanium silencers with carbon tips! However, as much bling as Triumph add to the RS, it is always that fabulous 1050cc triple that dominates the ride.

Now packing a respectable 148bhp, the Speed Triple’s motor may be down on power when compared to some of its more full-on super-naked rivals, however what it lacks in bhp it more than makes up for in sheer spirit. It boasts a wonderful motor for road riding, the triple not only has an additive exhaust note it has bags of midrange drive and a soul and feel all of its own that makes it a joy to ride.

If you like the idea of a naked bike but aren’t after one that still demands to be ridden like a sportsbike everywhere, buy a Speed Triple. This British roadster is still more than capable in the bends but where some super-nakeds can get a bit intimidating, the Speed Triple is just good old-fashioned fun that is guaranteed to make you grin. And at £145 a month and with some very tempting deal-sweeteners being offered by Triumph, that grin will only get wider!
