YAMAHA RAMP-UP THE TEMPTATION

Super-sharp summer finance deals see interest drop to 2.9%

‘Simplicty is all part of the Ténéré’s appeal’

If you’re looking to get your leg over a new bike this summer, Yamaha have just made it a whole lot more affordable with a cracking 2.9% interest offer across a large number of bikes. The deal includes the MT-10 SP, MT-10 Tourer Edition, MT-10, MT-09 SP, MT-09, MT-07, MT-03, Tracer 900 GT, Tracer 900 and the Ténéré 700. The offer is available on selected PCP and Purchase Plan agreements for a limited period. There are some stonkingly good bikes to pick from, but here’s three of our favourites… A lighter get-away We waited a long time for the arrival of the all new Ténéré 700, but it was worth it. Instead of following in the footsteps of the majority of manufacturers in the adventure bike class where engine size weight and electronics have continued to increase, the Ténéré comes at things from a different angle with a dry weight of 187kg (205kg wet), 74bhp and no electronic aids apart from ABS which can be switched off for off-road use. Powered by the MT-07 engine it is a fun and engaging ride with an impressive spread of power that works well both on and off-road. Its impressive engine, chassis and suspension negate the need for complicated electronics and rider aids – so while the hardware is high quality, there are no electronic gizmos on the Ténéré – so no different maps, traction control, quick shifter or auto blipper – but that this simplicity a big part of the appeal. The lighter way to tour The Tracer 900GT has the same motor as the MT-09, which is no bad thing at all. Packed full of grunt, the 847cc triple has a good throttle response as well as a bit of spirit should you wish to open it up and let it rev. You get a slipper clutch as standard and the GT version even adds a quickshifter, which is nice and slick in its operation. The engine is the MT range’s main selling point and it still delivers in this sports-tourer. Compared to the stock Tracer 900, the GT gains more versatility, fully adjustable forks, a shock with a remote preload adjuster, colourmatched panniers, a full-colour dash, heated grips, cruise control and a quickshifter. The extra composure and improved ride quality gives the GT the impression of being a more refined product. It’s a proper modern-day sports-tourer and well worth a try. Taking the naked option As much as we all loved the original MT-07, it did have its flaws – mainly in the suspension department. But Yamaha took customer feedback onboard and have addressed the issue with the current model. Upgraded suspension gives more control and feedback, which gives the rider more confidence at speed. Now the ride is compliant, soaking up most bumps and road imperfections – but you can ride the MT harder and faster as the springs at both ends aren’t jumping around like excitable toddlers who’ve eaten too many sweets. The new styling has added appeal and quality, too The engine is an absolute peach, too. On the one hand it’s sweetly fuelled, unintimidating and easy to manage – ideal for new riders – yet on the other it has enough attitude and aggression to be lots of fun down twisty backroads. Pound-for-pound one of the best bikes on the market. Head to Yamaha-motor.eu/gb now to find you nearest dealer – and book a test ride to temptation.
