McAMS take it to extremes

Glory for Mac as bad luck hits O’Halloran

-

It turned out be to be a day of contrasting fortunes in the McAMS Yamaha garage at Donington Park. Tarran Mackenzie made consistent progress throughout a day which ended with him spraying the winner’s bubbly in race three. His day also included another podium and fourth in a damp race one after gambling with the harder wet tyre and fighting his way through from 19th.

“To get my third victory and to win at Donington is amazing, I couldn’t ask for much more,” Mackenzie told MCN. “I felt so good on the bike. When I compare the Donington National races at the start of the year to now, it was just so much easier today. When you’re in your groove and have a good feeling on the bike, it almost feels easy and that’s what I felt like. “I’m 46 points off the lead, so it is a long way behind going into Brands but that’s a strong track for the Yamaha and for me. There’s no reason why I can’t go and do a good job, get three strong results and let the championship sort itself out.”

Jason O’Halloran’s title topes were dealt a cruel blow when a clash with Christian Iddon pushed his lever guard out of place and up against the clutch lever.

“The clutch lever was halfway pulled in, which I didn’t know, so the clutch was just slipping,” O’Halloran explained to MCN. “It took me three laps to work out what was going on. I hit the guard back down which released the clutch, but by that time it was fried.”

O’Halloran ended the race in eighth, following 14th in race one, but a podium in race two keeps him in the fight. “We’re not out of it. 19 points is not the end of the world so let’s see what we can do at Brands.”
