McPint speaks his mind...

Yes, we’ve endured lockdown but the racing has been ballistic

‘If Mir takes the title with no wins then he’s a very clever boy’

This has been a year to forget in many ways, but at least the racing has been amazing. There are now four riders all with their fingertips on the MotoGP title, but nobody has a firm grip. Plenty of people are going on about the fact that Mir is leading the championship and he hasn’t won a race, but you have to commend him because he’s done a fantastic job on the underdog bike… or at least what we think is the underdog bike! But if he ends up winning the title without winning a race then he’s a clever boy, isn’t he? It’ll mean he’s not been sucked into the pressure – he’s understood his strengths and the strengths of his bike and instead of over-thinking it, he’s just gone out every weekend and ridden to the best of his ability. With three rounds to go he should carry on doing what he’s doing. If he tries to come out of his bubble and win a race, that could be where it goes wrong. Quartararo is choking a bit and because of the depth of talent in MotoGP he’s paying the price because a slightly off day means you’re fighting to be in the top 10.

Morbidelli has me scratching my head because he was sixth in Aragon 1 and then a week later he won Aragon 2 and made it look like an exhibition race. Completely millimetre perfect lap after lap and he destroyed them. So he’s still in it.

And then we come to Viñales who’s got the talent and got the minerals, but I’m not sure how much he believes in himself; it’s like he’s looking for an excuse. They’ve all got a bite of the cherry but who will get to eat the icing on top at the end of the year?
