‘Retire? Cal could go on for years…’

McPint reckons it’s a crying shame Crutchlow is calling it a day

-

I’m full of admiration for Cal Crutchlow and his ‘take no sh*t’ attitude. He can be a feisty little f**ker with a 5mm fuse, but forgetting all that, it just seems too early for him to retire. To me he’s still that young lad. He should still be getting a good ride, but saying that I understand why it’s difficult because the game has changed. I hate to say it, but there is a new breed of rider in MotoGP now.

I still struggle to get my head round all the new signings coming into MotoGP from Moto2. Maybe

‘Cal had it tough, he has never had anything handed to him’

the bosses just want new blood. You do wonder if given how outspoken Cal can be – do the powers that be want him in the championship? Will he toe the line… will he f**k. You just wonder if MotoGP bosses are wondering if he fits the right image.

It’s a sad way to end his career with injuries because he’s still such a good rider and it only seems like yesterday that he was coming up from Superteens. But Cal looks happy with his decision and he’s got his new gig with Yamaha, so fair play to him. I wish him all the luck in the world. He had it tough, he never had anything handed to him. He won the World Supersport championship and when he got to MotoGP he tried and fought so hard and he ended up a top-flight MotoGP race winner, so all you can do is doff your hat to him. I just think it’s a crying shame he’s finished his career because he has more to give.

Let’s just hope he can get a few wildcards plus you’ve got four Yamaha riders on the grid that could go up the road and break a wrist at any time and he’d be in. We’ll just have to wait and see.
