New electric Kymcos step up a gear to deliver a better ride
New scooter released as well as RevoNex update
Kymco are forging ahead with their electric bike plans, delivering a new lightweight electric scooter as well as revealing production plans for their electric supernaked: the RevoNex.
First up is the F9 – the world’s first electric bike fitted with a two-speed automatic transmission. Why twospeed you might ask? Well, the linear delivery of electric bikes is often seen as a bit one dimensional, plus their zip tends to fade out at higher revs – just as you want things to get going. Kymco first looked at combining gears with electric motors in their SuperNex a couple of years ago, so the general idea has trickled down from there. Kymco also claim it’s more efficient, meaning they’ve been able to squeeze a 75-mile range out of a 40Ah battery, while using a battery with that rating helps keep the weight down to just 107kg. It’s no slouch either – the F9’s 9.4kW motor should give it the performance of a typical 125 while the battery fully charges from flat in just two hours, which would be perfect for a commuter. There’s no UK price or availability yet, but watch this space.

‘The battery charges fully in just two hours’
announced an update to their electric superbike project. After they released the SuperNex, they followed it up with the naked RevoNex last year. Now they’ve announced it will go into production in Italy although they stopped short of announcing when. However, given the minor changes to the model shown this year, as well as productionready patent images appearing earlier in the year, we’d guess production will begin in 2021.
