MV Agusta get the blues with new Alpine edition Superveloce
Special edition Superveloce takes a leaf from famous supercar book
‘Many Alpine customers are also big MV Agusta fans’
This is the MV Agusta Superveloce Alpine - a super-exclusive, limited edition version of MV’s retro superbike. And before you ask, it only comes in blue.
For the uninitiated, Alpine (pronounced Al-peen) are a French sports car manufacturer that have been around since the mid-1950s. They arguably found their biggest success in the early 1970s with the A110 - a rear-engined performance car that won the 1971 Monte Carlo rally. At the time Alpines were available with a variety of different engines but the winning car, and where they found the most success, was in a partnership with Renault; a partnership that continues to this day. Alpine reimagined the A110 a few years back as a modern sports car and it’s this car that the Superveloce Alpine makes reference to.
“Many Alpine customers are also big MV Agusta fans, and viceversa,” says Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta.
“The Superveloce Alpine will ideally bring the two worlds together, with incredible synergies in terms of design, personality and style. We look forward to this collaboration with one of the most admired brands in the history of motorsport, and are confident that this new, superb limited edition will be met with enthusiasm by bikers and motorsport fans around the world.”
What has changed? Not a great deal actually, but in a good way. At its core the bike is still the same, so you get the same great chassis, the same styling, the same 146bhp from the 798cc triple and all the same electronics. What has changed are the tiny details. So for a start it comes in blue - not just any old blue mind. The special edition comes in Abyss Blue, the exact same colour as the A110 and the colour that has adorned Alpines for generations. The seat is also new, constructed from black Alcantara with blue
stitching, to mirror the car interior while the black CNC machined wheels also mirror the fourwheeled machine. Last but not least, the fairings are finished off with the iconic Alpine badge. “MV Agusta is a symbol of Italian craftsmanship and excellence that makes motorcycles like no other,” says Patrick Marinoff, Managing Director of Alpine. “Our two brands are driven by the same passion for creating beautifully engineered products and unique emotions for our customers. The Superveloce Alpine is a fine piece of design and technology that makes no compromise on performance and riding pleasure.” Something like this only really works if it’s a limited edition, so with a number easily on hand MV are making just 110 of these specials. Of course it’s not the number being made that will likely stand the way - more likely the price. The Superveloce Alpine will set you back a hefty €36,300 (approximately £32,750) with the exact UK price to be confirmed. That does come with a race kit though, which includes a fancy exhaust and ditches the road going paraphernalia. Still, it is a lovely shade of blue.
