Take a stand for Murray

I think we were all shocked to hear of the sad passing of Murray Walker, a true icon for the sports of bike racing and F1. A consummate and passionate professional who brought both sports to life on the radio and TV coverage which he presented. A knighthood would have been so richly deserved but alas will now never happen, with this in mind I think a stand or corner should be named in his honour at the home of British motorsport: Silverstone. It’s the least we can do for such a warm, kind, generous man who gave everything to the sport he so loved. Jason Mitchell, email

Get more bikes on the box Why are motorbikes and related items never advertised on TV? It would certainly brighten up my Saturday night viewing and I’m sure many others if the odd bike advert came along in between the usual drivel that’s on, it may even help some of us stay awake with anticipation of what bike we’ll see at the next break. Staying on the radar

BMW’s push for radar safety is welcome news (MCN, March 17), the biggest hazard out there being large objects that can hit us. We will all do our bit by encouraging radar reflector technology. What needs to happen now is this tech being made cheaply and mandatory for all vehicles, not just high-end models. This should be high on the new National Motorcycle Council’s agenda and I will be calling on my MP to fully support them. Pete Thompson, Northampton

Census was senseless

I see the ACU, BMF, MAG, IAM, TRF etc are going to unite into the National Motorcyclists Council to ‘make it easier for the interests and opinions of motorcyclists to be heard by parliament’. Well, I wish them the very best of luck. I have just completed my 2021 Census. In it I was asked for my sexual preferences, my age, and how many cars I owned (just the one) but nothing about my motorcycles (all three of them). Parliament doesn’t give a stuff about motorcycling. A three fry-up ride…

I am really enjoying your weekly column on electric bikes but the one in the March 10 edition concerning the H-D LiveWire did get me thinking: How many people have £29,000 to spend on a motorcycle? And of those that have how many are willing to spend that on a bike which they can sensibly only ride for two hours a day? A 100-mile range and a 10 hour charge time sounds crazy. If I paid that sort of money, I’d want to be out all day every day. I have limited free time and when I am free I want to spend time riding not waiting for a battery to charge. I can’t eat that many fry ups! Leisure riding is marketed as being carefree. How is that possible if one is having to wonder where the next charge point is? Gary Fisher, email

Don’t panic over EU orders

I saw a pair of Rukka trousers for sale online at a great price at Louis Motorrad in Hannover. They reassured me that the price advertised is the total price and that they arrange the VAT to paid to the UK government and just in case anyone tried to hit me with extras Louis provided an email address to deal with any issues. My new Rukkas arrived today, three days after my order, with no extras to pay. Don’t be afraid to buy your kit in the EU, just make sure they guarantee you only pay once. Filter with caution

Steven Mc Kinstry’s letter about filtering (MCN Letters, March 17) reminded me of an incident a few years ago here on the Isle of Man. I was on my bike in a line of traffic waiting to go through the lights at the top of Bray Hill. A rider on a huge Kawasaki touring machine came gunning through to get to the front but the car in front of me then turned into a junction on the right... WALLOP! Bent Kwacker. Nobody was injured but as this was in the last weekend of TT practice, I’ll bet it put a dampener on their trip. I filter all the time, but cautiously. Chris Ditchfield, email
