Ducati recall Multistrada V4 after engine part causes failures
Supplier issues cause valve guide failure
Ducati have recalled a number of Multistrada V4s due to parts issues within the new Granturismo engine that could lead to engine failure. Ducati have told customers that there is an issue with the valve guides whereby sub-standard items are prone to premature wear, which could result in a loss of power or failure of the engine to start. However, analysis by Ducati has narrowed the problems down to a single batch of valve guides from just one of their multiple suppliers. As a result, only a percentage of the bikes that have been produced are affected, meaning some owners won’t be contacted at all while others will have to return their bikes to dealers – and some have been refused delivery of their new bike to allow the work to be carried out. MCN understands owners who have already taken delivery of bikes that are in the affected batch will be offered a new engine as well as a courtesy bike until their machine is returned. Those who have not yet taken delivery will be offered the choice of new heads fitted by their dealership, or new valve guides fitted to their engine back at the factory. The estimated waiting time for all those affected is four to eight weeks. To make up for the inconvenience owners are being offered two years’ free servicing, covering both annual services and mileage services,
‘Owners will be offered a brand new engine…’
plus a voucher towards parts and accessories if they don’t take the courtesy bike option. All affected owners should have been contacted already, but concerned parties can check if their Multistrada V4 is affected with their Ducati dealer.
