THE PHANTOM MENACE

Suzuki make the GSX-R1000R stealthier with new limited-edition model

-

‘A Yoshimura silencer adds to the appeal’

Suzuki have revived the Phantom name for a special GSX-R1000R. Like the all-black GSX-R1000 K6 Phantom from 2006, the new GSX-R1000R Phantom has a Yoshimura exhaust – this time with a carbon-tipped R11 silencer finished in Black Metal Magic – as well as a smattering of accessories, including track-ready brake and clutch lever guards, a tank pad and fuel cap trim, plus a smoked double-bubble screen.

The GSX-R1000R produces 199bhp from its inline-fourcylinder engine, which uses the same variable valve timing system as the 2020 MotoGP world title-winning GSX-RR. It also has a full suite of electronics features including a bi-directional quickshifter; lean angle-sensitive, 10-mode traction control and ABS; launch control, and three power modes - and that’s just the start. The high-spec Phantom comes with Balance Free suspension, launch control, braided front brake hoses, adjustable swingarm pivot, LED position lights, negative LCD instrument panel and a lightweight top yoke as standard. Plus, the current GSX-R1000R also boasts a more compact and narrower chassis than the previous model. The new bolt-on rear subframe is now made of square aluminium tubing, reducing weight by 38% and a new aluminium swingarm is braced on both sides instead of on one, to improve weight and rigidity balance. The new Brembo discs and calipers are 10mm larger in diameter with each disc featuring a hybrid mounting system. The LED headlight is more compact and helps with the aerodynamics, and the LCD instrumentation makes the dash easier to read and has SDMS mode and Motion Track TCS level indicators as well as the expected fuel gauge, temperature gauge and service reminders.

A single seat cowl matches the matt black livery, which is complemented by gloss black decals. Standing out against the stealthy black colour scheme are gold wheels and gold Showa Balance Free front forks. Plus, don’t forget that there are a wide range of accessories available so that you can make your new Phantom unique, including extra protection, nifty styling and exclusive luggage.

The most exciting GSX-R in history can be yours from £17,499. There are finance options available for both PCP and HP, too. You can find out more about the bike and the finance available online now at: bikes.suzuki.co.uk.
