Ducati 749 Biposto (2003-2007)

The challenge of succeeding the 748 was as tough an ask as the 999 had in following the 916 – and was similarly slow to catch on. Despite improved performance, dynamics and clever technology, Pierre Terblanche’s design lacked beauty, which slowed sales and eventually prompted the more conventional 1098/848 family in 2008. There are three variants: the base Biposto, uprated S and tantalising R. All, if you can stomach the looks, are great Italian sportsbikes. What you’ll pay today A little over £4000 for a Biposto, ans for just over five grand. But should you? Initially controversial, now an appreciating connoisseur’s choice but the higher spec ones are the real goodies.
