PILING ON THE STYLE
Tokyo show debuts more custom wonders
Yamaha unveiled some interesting concepts in Osaka but they held back another Authentic Sport and the suggestion is that this one will also go into production. Once again the work has been done by Y’s Gear, an official accessory manufacturer, and the result is a much sharper-looking SCR950. At the front the bike has a new mudguard kit, tapered handlebars, an engine guard and new footpegs but it’s the back end that really makes the bike. The upswept custom seat and relocated indicators give the bike a dynamic appearance that is complemented nicely by the black wheels and Prunus exhaust. Also on display was a hot version of the Vyrus 986 M2 that was dripping in motorcycle exotica. The revamped M2 shares the same 118bhp CBR600RR motor but receives some serious upgrades in the form of Öhlins suspension, Brembo monoblock calipers and BST Carbon wheels shod with Pirelli Super-corsa tyres. This little lot means the M2 is impressively light, just 145kg dry, but lighter still is an owner’s wallet as it’s approximately £52,000.
‘At 145kg dry, it’s light but not as light as an owner’s wallet will be – it’s £52k’
