Q Why does my bike run badly when it’s hot?

-

My Suzuki GSF1250 starts and runs fine when it’s cold, but when it gets warm after a few miles the throttle response starts to get jerky. Keith Henderson, email

A faulty gear position sensor may be fooling the ECU into thinking it is in a higher gear than it is, so it’s using the wrong map. As your bike does not have a gear indicator on the dash this fault may not be obvious. If the neutral light is coming on when the bike is in gear that is another symptom. It is not uncommon for the sensor to fail, a new sensor is £79.78. It is mounted behind the sprocket cover and is something a home mechanic could tackle.
