Not such a bright idea

Travelling to work this morning, I was in a line of cars some of which were waiting to turn right, I noticed that 90% of the cars had daytime lights on. Why? Back in the 80s/90s if I had been sat in the same queue, any bike headlights coming towards me would have been clearly noticeable, now because everything else has a light on, the bikes do not stand out.
