WHIT’S RACING CAREER

-

It’s fair to say that Whitham has been there and done it when it comes to racing. From competing at the Manx through to getting top six finishes at the TT Whitham was also a major force within the British Superbike paddock, winning the title in 1993 on his Fast Orange Yamaha YZF750. He also raced at Daytona and way back in 1992 competed in the French 500GP at Magny Cours. In 1994 he headed into WSB riding a factory Ducati, winning a race in Indonesia and finishing seventh overall. 1995 saw a return to BSB and his first diagnosos of Hodgkin’s disease midseason. He bounced back in 1996 winning 10 races on the Cadbury’s Boost Yamaha and finished runner-up to rival and friend Niall Mackenzie. The 1997 and 1998 seasons saw him back in WSB onboard the official Suzuki GSXR750. He looked set to get a factory Suzuki call up in GPs in 1999 but it never materialised. In 2000 he got his first taste of World Supersport – winning as a wildcard before becoming a factory Belgarda Yamaha rider in 2001 and 2002 where he fought for the title.
