THE LESSON

Starting on the wrong path 1

Jordan’s planning through roundabouts was quite poor and he was distracted by changing his body position. To turn right he was going in too deep, which meant he had to turn left onto the roundabout, then follow it round.

It’s all about your route in 2

The big key to getting on the right path is setting the best entry point. We talked about making his approach wider, so that he could join the roundabout more smoothly, allowing him to take a single arc through.

The straightest path possible 3

Once Jordan was getting his entry point right, it put him in a much better position to see and predict other vehicles’ movements and allowed him to plan his line all the way through the roundabout. This meant he could straighten his line significantly, spot the exit sooner, and pick up the throttle earlier.

Scything though swiftly and safely 4

Jordan responded really well to the techniques we talked about and he could feel the benefit straight away. It enabled him to drop into the roundabout faster, but in more control. He wasn’t unsettling the bike with unnecessary braking or throttle inputs, and was dramatically smoother.
