‘Is there a quick fix for my fasteners?’

-

The symptoms Some fasteners are difficult to remove and their rubber counterparts are broken.

Dr Know prescribes Quite often people use the wrong size Allen key or cross-head screwdriver, which chews up the head. You can try to find cheap bolts to replace the originals, but I would prescribe buying original items which are still available from Honda and won’t break the bank. Upper fairing bolts are £1.78 each and the rubber well nuts are £3.76. The panels on bikes need these original fittings and all fastenings are designed to join the bodywork together with a degree of movement and vibration damping. Never use cheap, generic ‘gutter’ bolts as they won’t let the bodywork move.
