WHAT WOULD HE BE ON NOW?

-

Motorcycle sport has evolved a lot since the 1960s and 70s and McQueen’s style would be more suited to modern day Enduro events rather than trials riding. He could still race in events like the Baja 1000 and the Elsinore Grand Prix (both of which he competed in) as both are still running, but the ultimate desertriding challenge for him now would be the Dakar Rally which started in 1978, by which time McQueen was in his late forties and had stopped competing.

As a major celebrity, McQueen would no doubt be feted by today’s MotoGP stars and might even find himself taking on Marc Marquez and co at the annual Superprestigio in Barcelona. The builders of McQueen’s favourite bikes, Triumph, Husqvarna and Metisse, are all still going strong, so he might well have opted for a Husky FE501 to race, given his preference for fourstroke bikes with large engines.
