Honda had been selling CBR600s by the freighter-load for 14 years prior to the model going from carbs to fuel injection. At that point Honda offered two models: the ‘cooking’ F and the edgier F-Sport. The FS would be superseded by the RR in 2003. But it retained enough of the old CBR’s character to make it a decent all-rounder. Different camshafts and a lighter flywheel altered the character of the engine, but it was still a great road bike.
Buyer beware
Hondas attract high-mileage riders but the bikes can take it. Regulator/ rectifiers can fry, so look for charging problems. Unless tweaked with a Power Commander or similar, fuel consumption can be heavy. Camchain tensioners are a known weakness, so listen for the tell-tale clatter and rattle, especially on start-up from cold.
