‘My idle seems incorrect’

-

The symptoms Engine idles too fast. Dr Know prescribes The idle speed should be set around 1250 to 1350rpm. Adjustment is made with a small screw above the clutch cover on the right of the bike. It can be a little tricky to do this though, mainly because the digital tacho on the ER-6 only goes up in 250rpm increments, plus the adjuster is not damped very well, meaning it pops up and down 250rpm either way of where you think it needs to be. The idle needs to be set fairly accurately or else you will have reduced engine braking, and the bike is more likely to run hot in slow-moving traffic. Make sure the engine is fully warmed up before you make any adjustments. Turn the adjuster knob in small increments until the tickover settles down, blip the throttle and make sure it returns to the same rpm.
