SUPERBIKE RACE

-

1st Michael Dunlop Tyco BMW

After 133mph laps in practice, the Superbike race was always going to be hot, but Dean Harrison turned heads when he smashed the outright lap record from a standing start on lap one of the Superbike with a 134.432mph. Peter Hickman’s Smiths BMW developed a misfire and with a steady start for Dunlop, Harrison was able to build an 11.3 second lead. Another 134mph lap for Harrison saw his lead extend to 16.379 on lap two. Dunlop began to close on the Kawasaki rider on lap three before Harrison retired at Sulby with a clutch issue. Harrison’s retirement left Dunlop with a sizeable lead, allowing the Tyco BMW rider to cruise to his 16th TT win ahead of Padgetts Honda’s Conor Cummins. James Hillier was third for Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki. David Johnson enjoyed a strong result for the new Gulf BMW team to cross the line fourth ahead of veteran Michael Rutter, while Honda’s Lee Johnston rounded out the top six.
