In the fol­low­ing ses­sions, moves that had seemed im­pos­si­ble start to make a bit more sense. While I’m only too aware that tai chi isn’t some­thing you can mas­ter in a month, I hope I at least look a lit­tle less clumsy dur­ing the fi­nal ses­sion.

By the end of the month the pain I had been feel­ing in my back is dras­ti­cally re­duced. I’ve found that I au­to­mat­i­cally cor­rect my pos­ture away from the class and I even find it eas­ier to quickly shift my weight for kick­ing dur­ing Muay Thai train­ing. So don’t be tempted to dis­miss tai chi as a gen­tle re­lax­ation tool for el­derly peo­ple – I can as­sure you it has use­ful, real-world benefits.
