And not only is it an­noy­ing for other gym users, it also has a neg­a­tive im­pact on your train­ing. Fig­ures com­piled by Amer­i­can re­searchers show that peo­ple who use their phones dur­ing ex­er­cise work out less in­tensely than those who don’t. This co­in­cides with the re­sults of a pre­vi­ous study, which found a neg­a­tive re­la­tion­ship be­tween phone use and fit­ness. The good news? Us­ing your phone to lis­ten to mu­sic will in­crease the in­ten­sity and en­joy­ment of your work­out. So whack on some tunes and leave the chit-chat­ting for the wa­ter cooler.
