Adam Brown
The founder of beach-to-bar leisurewear brand Orlebar Brown might like to keep things simple, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a sucker for quality. Follow his prep tips to start the day right
6am I wake up pretty early and make a shake before heading to the gym. It usually contains whatever fruit I have lying around, plus nuts and a scoop of protein powder – Bodyism’s Clean & Lean range is my favourite.
6.17am When I’m gym-bound, I tend to use either a Filson backpack ( 1) or a Belstaff tote, both of which are rugged and practical. I’ll throw in my clothes for the day, along with my washbag.
6.31am At the gym, I’ll do a mix of yoga and bodyweight exercises, such as Turkish get-ups, alongside free weights. They’re a great way to maintain your core strength.
7.29am I have a simple grooming routine. I’m conscious about chemicals and love plant-based ingredients, so I use Aesop body cleanser (2).
7.48am I tidy my beard with my trusty Babyliss i-stubble Trimmer. You can digitally adjust the stubble length to suit different areas, so it’s really functional. I also have a Gillette Mach 3 to tackle my cheeks.
8am Scent-wise, I’m really into Comme des Garçons Amazingreen (3). I’m not keen on woody, musky fragrances; I like that it’s light, fresh and defined by botanical notes, which is typically Japanese. It’s vibrant instead of heavy.
8.01am We have a new chambray shirt at Orlebar Brown (4) that I’ve recently been wearing every day. It can be slightly crumpled and unironed: I like clothes that look as though they have a bit of life in them and aren’t too starchy.
8.04am I wear stretchy chinos that you can easily move in. To me, the function of clothes is to make you feel good as well as look good. Prada does a great pair of stretch chinos (5) – they’re comfortable to wear on long days.
8.06am I’m a sucker for Valentino camo trainers (6). The detail is amazing and they’re very comfortable. Lanvin also does an amazing runner. Its shoes are always well constructed.
8.07am I have a Ralph Lauren RRL belt that I bought around 22 years ago, and I still wear it every single day. It has a seasoned, vintage look and has a bit of history to it. Everyone should own a one- off piece like that.
8.08am My main watch is an IWC Aquatimer, but I’m also very attached to my Panerai Regatta ( 7). I like the sensibility of the brand’s ranges – there is a limited number of models, but they’re well executed.
8.09am If it’s sunny, I’ll slip on a pair of shades before I head to the office. I tend to favour round, coloured frames – either that or clear frames with navy lenses. Colour gives them personality, which can really make or break a look.
