Five years ago, TAG Heuer disrupted the market with a piece of wearable tech dressed in classic watchmaker’s clothing, causing the more traditional-minded Swiss horologists to cry into their muesli. The product of a close, creative collaboration with Google, the Connected boasts increased battery life, Wear OS software and one of the most advanced chips in the smartwatch business. Designed with high-intensity performance in mind, this will not only track your activity and heart rate but also help to monitor metrics for sports as varied as cycling and golf.
Much has been made of the apparent incompatibility of mechanical watchmaking and the digital age. But given TAG’s long association with sport, its synthesis of the best of both worlds shouldn’t be a surprise. It might just be the first original classic of the 21st century.
