Tredegar face best in world at Brass in Concert in November
THE 47th Brass in Concert Championship with 11 bands will take place at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music on Saturday, November 16.
The 11 bands are among the finest in the world including the current Brass in Concert Champion, Foden’s, as well as bands from England, Scotland, Wales and Norway.
The event will be introduced by Frank Renton. The competing bands are Aldbourne, Brighouse and Rastrick, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery, Cory, Flowers, Foden’s, GUS, Hammonds, Krohnengen, the Cooperation Band and Tredegar.
Speaking on behalf of Brass in Concert, CED Nigel Stevens said: “We’re delighted with the field of bands taking part in this year’s event, and we’re especially pleased to welcome back Cory, GUS, Krohnengen and the Cooperation Band, who have all returned to the festival after a few years away.
“The standard of playing and the innovative music selections by the competing bands are so high and it it really is an open playing field, as evidenced by the three different winning bands over the past three years.
“This makes for a great day of inspiration and listening for both the audience in the hall and the international viewers watching via Wobplay, and we can’t wait to see which of our 11 top bands will take the coveted Brass in Concert title in 2024”.
■ Meanwhile, Tredegar represented Wales at the 45th European Brass Band Championship at Palanga, Lithuania, which actually lasted from April 27 to May 5. However, Wales were honoured to have two Welsh bands involved.
Tredegar played the Set Test piece on May 3 and their Own Choice piece on May 4 in the European Championships.
On the evening of May 4 the Cory Band were featured as the guest band in the Gala Concert and they also played for the composers competition.
Bands in the European Championships are 3BA Concert Brass (Germany), BB Oberosterreich (Austria), BB Schoonhoven (Netherlands), BB Treize Etoiles (Switzerland), BB Burgermusik Luzerne (Switzerland), BB Willebroek (Belgium), Brighouse & Rastrick (England), Concorde BB (Denmark), Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag (Norway), Gota BB (Sweden), Hauts-de-France BB (France), and Tredegar (Wales).
