Swedish avant-black misfits trip the blight fantastic
Post-black metallers Kall continue the legacy of the cult act, Lifelover, from which they were directly formed in 2012. This second album shines psychedelic experimentalism and death-rock codas, jazzy backbeats and tasteful sax bleating through a prism of Scandinavian extremity. At times, Kall evoke a less obtuse, more punk-jarred Ved Buens Ende, with a searing guitar solo and bucking grooves acting as counterpoints to its avant tangents. The production is still lo-fi despite some krautrock basslines, which will no doubt satisfy Lifelover fans and followers of the daring side of 90s
BM, the mind-frazzling work of Oranssi Pazuzu or Okkultokrati’s take on Bm-damaged post-punk. ■■■■■■■■■■
