EARTHTONE9
Arc’tan’gent
While the UK metal scene was largely being swallowed by the nu metal juggernaut at the turn of the millennium, 2000’s Evolution tour, featuring Stampin’ Ground, Skindred and earthtone9, showed there were still vistas from a very British perspective. The latter offered thrilling new scope on this, their acclaimed third album, swapping out the testosterone and ego-centricity that often defined the scene for something more exploratory and spiritually minded. In Karl Middleton’s wanderlust-driven voice and the propulsive, ritualistic grooves, the Nottingham band offered a visceral rush, but one that put its head above the generic parapet and saw a glimpse of something divine.
