PUT ROCK IN RIO IN THE CINEMA!

That was just one of the demands you had for us this month. Here are some other things you said…

NEW THRILLENNIUM

Loved all the stuff about the year 2000 in the Deftones issue. My favourite year in metal as that was the year that gave the world my favourite metal album – not White Pony, Infest or Hybrid Theory, but LD50 by Mudvayne! Yes, really – I saw them on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and went out to find the album the very next day!

Darren James (email)

Ah, halcyon days: when weirdass metal bands were regularly on respected BBC flagship shows. Who remembers Dani Filth on Buzzcocks? You don’t get shit like that any more (though we’d fully back Gaahl turning up on The Great British Bake Off).

NEW MILLENNI-BUM

While I enjoyed all the 2000 stuff, I can’t help but feel classic heavy metal got a bit ignored?! It wasn’t all about Iron Maiden coming back with Bruce – we also had Magica by Dio, Stiff Upper Lip by AC/DC, Silicon Messiah by Blaze Bayley and House Of God by the mighty King Diamond! That’s just a few of them!

Graham Mcguire (email)

There were, quite literally, dozens upon dozens of albums we could have mentioned, but we reckon even the most dedicated old-school metalhead would be bold to say that 2000 is known as a vintage year for ‘propah’ heavy metal. As we all know, however, it would soon rise again, and then some.

TONE DEF

So happy Deftones are finally back on the cover of Metal Hammer,

even if it’s for an old album. Does this mean we’ll see them back on for the new one? I know it’s coming soon after, but a girl can dream, right?

Francesca Dickson (Facebook)

You’re all want, want, want, want, you Deftones fans! We are kidding, we’ll certainly be going big on the new album in one form or another, and from what we’ve heard on the grapevine, we should all be very excited indeed.

BE YEAR NOW

I like a bit of nostalgia as much as the next person but we’ve had an 80s issue and a year 2000 issue this year now – any danger we could have a band on the cover that are doing something right now? Just saying…

Brad Jennings (Facebook)

Alright Brad, sarky pants!

Full transparency: we weren’t actually planning to do the year 2000 issue quite so soon, but a certain global pandemic turned up to throw the music industry in the bin for a few months, so we decided to roll with it. And what better way to do that than with a White Pony anniversary? But rest assured: there’s some monstrous stuff in the metal scene to come this year, and we’ll be all over it.

GLOBAL WARMING

Can we have more bands from around the global metal scene in the magazine please? The piece you did with Testament in Nepal was my favourite Metal Hammer

article of the last few months. Metal is worldwide!

Tessa James (Facebook)

Basically: yes! There is no corner of this planet* where metal lives that we won’t reach, by hook or crook. Watch this space. (*Please note we are aware the world technically doesn’t have corners. We’re not flat-earthers. That’d be silly.)

BLOODSTOCK TV!

I really enjoyed parts of the Download TV coverage last month (especially Gojira and Powerwolf!), so I’m hoping we get the same for Bloodstock? For me their line-up is always closer to my tastes and I was devastated they had to cancel this year. Could we get Rob Halford doing some cooking? Ha ha ha!

Nick Simpson (email)

Halford On The Hob! Myrkur Makes Moulds! Yob’s Yoga Hour! Alestorm’s Ale Storm! Alright, it’s all gone a bit Partridge now. We’d absolutely watch Bloodstock TV though…
