BRAZIL’S BOLSONARO TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID

-

SEVERAL pubs and bars have had to shut just days after reopening due to coronavirus cases on their premises.

The Lighthouse in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, said a customer had tested positive and it had called 70 people who were drinking there on Saturday.

After leaving the carvery pub, the infected drinker then headed to the Vape Escape bar, which also made the decision to close and test staff.

A delivery driver from nearby Saagar restaurant had also been in The Lighthouse that day. It too has shut for a precautionary deep clean. ‘We were quite shocked when we found out,’ said Lighthouse manager Jess Green. ‘I think everyone thought it would happen at some point but not one day after reopening.’

Elsewhere, The Fox And Hounds in Batley, West Yorkshire, said it would be closed until further notice after receiving a call from a customer on Monday to say they had coronavirus.

Posting on its Facebook page, it said all staff had since taken a test and added the pub will be ‘fully deep cleaned and when safe to do so we will reopen our doors’.

And the Village Home pub in Gosport, Hampshire, said it had also had a case on its premises, adding that ‘some of us are in isolation’.

Health secretary Matt Hancock told the Commons yesterday: ‘In reopening hospitality, we’ve also introduced contact tracing for customers – this system is working. This is NHS Test and Trace working precisely as intended. Three pubs shut so others can be open, and I think the whole House is grateful.’
