DEPP: ‘DEFECATING IN BED LED TO US DIVORCING’

- by ANDREI HARMSWORTH

JOHNNY DEPP made up his mind to divorce his ‘narcissistic, sociopathic’ wife Amber Heard when he found faeces in the marital bed, London’s High Court was told yesterday. The Pirates Of The Caribbean star came face to face with his 34-yearold ex at the start of his libel action against The Sun after the newspaper labelled him a ‘wife-beater’ in 2018.

He insisted he had never abused Heard and that, during their ‘incredibly unhappy’ two-year marriage, which ended in 2017, it was she who had regularly attacked him.

He claimed she was ‘completely emotionally dishonest’ and had married him for money and fame before setting out to destroy him with false claims of domestic violence. The bed incident involving Heard ‘or possibly one of her friends’ was the final straw. She dismissed it as a ‘harmless prank’, the court heard. Depp, 57, told how ‘beautiful’ Heard had thrown a ‘love bomb’ at him when they met. But he added: ‘I

am now convinced that she came into my life to take from me anything worth taking and then destroy what remained of it.’

In one of his witness statements filed as part of his libel case against The Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and its executive editor Dan Wootton, Depp said: ‘If I had known then what I know now, I would have seen the red flag warning signs, but I did not.

‘She was beautiful, seemingly incredibly interested in me and my work, and I fell for it. She bombed me with what appeared to be love.’

Heard, 34, claims Depp attacked her while either drunk or high on several occasions. But the actor said he has never abused Heard – or any other woman in his life – and it went against his ‘moral code’.

He said he’d had a ‘painful childhood’ and admitted taking ‘every drug under the sun’ by the time he was 14, but that didn’t make him a wife beater. His lawyer David Sherborne said: ‘The claimant was not violent towards Ms Heard – it was she who was violent to him.’

Mr Sherborne read extracts from the recordings of one altercation in 2015 in which Heard told her husband: ‘You got hit... but I did not punch you. I did not f****** deck you. I f****** was hitting you... You are a f****** baby.’

When Depp accused her of starting ‘physical fights’, she replied: ‘ You are such a baby. Grow the f*** up.’ The court heard details of several bust-ups between the pair. Depp said that, in 2014, he had to lock himself in a plane toilet after Heard called him a ‘pussy’ – and ‘repeatedly punched me in the face’. He ended up sleeping in there.

On another occasion, in March 2015, he claims his finger was severed when Heard threw two vodka bottles at him.

She said the incident happened during the second day of a ‘three-day hostage situation’.

Depp, who is seeking £39million in damages, told the court that the case was about vindication, not money.

But The Sun’s lawyer, Sasha Wass, accused him of ‘lying’ to the court when she grilled him on his partying with famous friends, including gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, rocker Marilyn Manson and British actor Paul Bettany.

Admitting taking drugs with Manson on two occasions, Depp said: ‘I believe Mr Thompson has a very famous quote that says, “I do not condone the use of drugs or alcohol to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me”.’

Ms Wass accused Depp of ‘encouraging’ his daughter Lily-Rose to smoke

‘weed’ when she was 13 years old. The actor replied: ‘I never encouraged my daughter to use marijuana.’

Ms Wass then read out a series of emails between Depp and Lily-Rose in which the actor said he was ‘checking in to check on your experience last night’. His daughter replied ‘love it’, to which Mr Depp responded: ‘Good girl. I’m happy for you, my angel.’

Depp told the court: ‘I knew that the marijuana I had myself, that I smoke myself, is trustworthy, is a good quality and I was determined not to have her try any drugs out there because it’s too dangerous. I was being a responsible parent as far as I was concerned.’ The case is set to feature more star names including Depp’s ex-girlfriends, Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder. Both have said that Depp never abused them. Yesterday, Depp arrived at court in a blue suit, sunglasses and a bandana face covering. His ex-wife held hands with her sister Whitney and lawyer Jennifer Robinson. Her girlfriend, Bianca Butti, 38, was also there. The trial is scheduled to last three weeks and the outcome will be decided by a judge.
