Problems with the Chinese state? Let me count Huaweis

I really don’t understand all the concern about China’s involvemen­t in the UK’s 5G network via its Huawei network (Metro, Mon).

Apart from suppressin­g informatio­n about the coronaviru­s outbreak in Wuhan until it was a global pandemic, arresting pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong and removing books from libraries that might promote the ideas of democracy, liberty and freedom of speech, what has the Chinese government done to cause so much mistrust and suspicion?

I agree, Judith, that we should stop buying cheap muck from China (MetroTalk, Mon). We need to start buying British and get our economy going this way – it’s fairer trade.

China uses mass cheap and child labour to make products. And I don’t want any food on our shelves from there – God knows what’s in it.

Farm shops are not as dear as people think and it’s great quality too. Or use your local street markets – you can bag great deals of fresh produce there. I’ve used mine since lockdown. Due to my shifts, the supermarke­ts were stripped bare when I first tried to shop so I started using them and I’m going to continue.

I order loo roll online and use my local Costcutter for anything else. I’ve spent less as I’m not tempted around the stores. Let’s Make Britain Great Again!

Sarah is way off the mark when she claims President Donald Trump is putting the US first in buying up supplies of Covid-19 treatment drug remdesivir (MetroTalk, Mon). He’s only thinking of himself.

This is the president who tried to push for the use of bleach as a countermea­sure to the virus and he rarely wears a face mask.

For a man putting ‘America first’, why are his supporters being asked to sign waivers that absolve him of blame if they catch Covid-19 at his rallies, where they will be sat together with none of them wearing masks? Because Trump
