■ SRI LANKA and the Maldives have become the first two countries in south-east Asia to eliminate measles and rubella. The World Health Organization wants all 11 nations in the region to be virus-free by 2023.
■ A CAMBODIAN province has outlawed the dog meat trade, with offenders facing up to five years in jail. Animal welfare groups estimate 34,800 dogs a year are served in restaurants in Siem Reap, home to the Angkor Wat temple complex.
