TONIGHT’S TV CHOICE

- KEITH WATSON

NEW There She Goes BBC2, 9.30pm (Wales 10pm)

Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? The smart thing about the story of parents Simon and Emily, and the challenges of raising daughter Rosie, who has severe learning difficulties, is that There She Goes plants its feet unashamedly in both camps and creams off the best of both worlds. David Tennant and Jessica Hynes rise to the challenge of not being upstaged by Miley Locke as Rosie.

Manhunt: The Raoul Moat Story ITV, 9pm

In July 2010 the news was dominated by police efforts to capture gunman Raoul Moat, who went on the run after a two-day shooting spree. Moat’s taunting as he evaded the net will send a chill down your spine.

Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads

BBC1, 8.30pm (Wales, 9pm)

Monica Dolan is one of those brilliant actors you’ve seen in countless dramas but might struggle to name. She’s superb here, breathing grief and regret into the story of Lorna, her life derailed by the death of her husband in a motorbike crash. The Shrine is new from Alan Bennett – the master of the monologue hasn’t lost it.

NEW Get Shorty Sky Atlantic, 9pm

If you’re a fan of reruns of The IT Crowd and Everybody Loves Raymond, then you will find much to love in this dark comedy drama, led by respective stars Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano. It’s a sly Hollywood satire that is now up to its third series, with O’Dowd playing the role of Miles Daly, a hitman with stars in his eyes.
