Right about now we could be into the fifth set of a nail-bit­ing men’s semi-fi­nal at Wim­ble­don… but 2020 be­ing what it is, what we’ve got in­stead is Jack Whitehall fish­ing for fun­nies in a kit­bag of sport­ing clips. He rightly feels Bri­tish sports fans are in need of a lift so the open­ing theme is a look back at Brits tri­umph­ing at the 1966 World Cup and the 2012 Olympics.

NEW De­tec­tive Cain Wal­ter Presents/All4

Fans of ex­cel­lent French cop drama Spi­ral will recog­nise Bruno De­brandt, who played Com­mis­sioner Bre­mont in that show and takes the role of mav­er­ick Mar­seilles cop Cain here. It’s a ser­vice­able pro­ce­dural, lifted a notch by a dash of Gal­lic elan.

Huey Mor­gan’s Latin Mu­sic Ad­ven­ture BBC4, 9.30pm

This is an en­tirely non-sta­tis­ti­cal claim but can any coun­try top Cuba when it comes to pro­duc­ing more bril­liant dancers per capita than any other? Huey Mor­gan rev­els in an is­land that pulses to its own sen­su­ous rhythm and high­lights an ed­u­ca­tion sys­tem that pushes mu­sic and dance to the fore­front of the cur­ricu­lum.

My Bril­liant Friend

It’s time for amends to be made and rec­on­cil­i­a­tions war­ily con­structed as this stylish adap­ta­tion of Elena Fer­rante’s much-loved nov­els comes to a close. Child­hood chums Elena and Lila have drifted worlds apart but some ties bind tight.
