TONIGHT’S TV CHOICE
NEW Jack Whitehall’s Sporting Nation BBC1, 8.30pm
Right about now we could be into the fifth set of a nail-biting men’s semi-final at Wimbledon… but 2020 being what it is, what we’ve got instead is Jack Whitehall fishing for funnies in a kitbag of sporting clips. He rightly feels British sports fans are in need of a lift so the opening theme is a look back at Brits triumphing at the 1966 World Cup and the 2012 Olympics.
NEW Detective Cain Walter Presents/All4
Fans of excellent French cop drama Spiral will recognise Bruno Debrandt, who played Commissioner Bremont in that show and takes the role of maverick Marseilles cop Cain here. It’s a serviceable procedural, lifted a notch by a dash of Gallic elan.
Huey Morgan’s Latin Music Adventure BBC4, 9.30pm
This is an entirely non-statistical claim but can any country top Cuba when it comes to producing more brilliant dancers per capita than any other? Huey Morgan revels in an island that pulses to its own sensuous rhythm and highlights an education system that pushes music and dance to the forefront of the curriculum.
My Brilliant Friend
Sky Atlantic, 9pm & 10.10pm
It’s time for amends to be made and reconciliations warily constructed as this stylish adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s much-loved novels comes to a close. Childhood chums Elena and Lila have drifted worlds apart but some ties bind tight.
