Ings aren’t perfect as Saints have to settle for a point
DANNY INGS kept himself in the running to win the Golden Boot with his 19th Premier League goal of the season but Southampton had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Everton last night.
Richarlison earned a point for the hosts, in what turned out to be an entertaining affair at Goodison Park.
The Saints started strongly, and Armstrong hooked into the net early on, but from an offside position.
Then the visitors blew a big chance to go in front when James Ward-Prowse fired a penalty against the crossbar after he was fouled by Andre Gomes.
But the brilliant Ings, who had already headed one chance against the crossbar, then put Southampton ahead after half an hour, with an adept finish having
PREMIER LEAGUE latched on to a misplaced shot from Armstrong.
Everton were level just before half-time, with Lucas Digne’s long ball controlled with one touch by Richarlison and hammered past Alex McCarthy.
Chances were at a premium after the interval, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin fluffing one chance for the hosts when he failed to connect properly with Tom Davies’ diagonal pass.
Everton and Southampton, who were both in the bottom three earlier in the season, remain in 11th and 12th place respectively in the Premier League table.
