Ings aren’t per­fect as Saints have to set­tle for a point

DANNY INGS kept him­self in the run­ning to win the Golden Boot with his 19th Premier League goal of the sea­son but Southamp­ton had to set­tle for a 1-1 draw at Ever­ton last night.

Richarli­son earned a point for the hosts, in what turned out to be an en­ter­tain­ing af­fair at Good­i­son Park.

The Saints started strongly, and Arm­strong hooked into the net early on, but from an off­side po­si­tion.

Then the visi­tors blew a big chance to go in front when James Ward-Prowse fired a penalty against the cross­bar af­ter he was fouled by An­dre Gomes.

But the bril­liant Ings, who had al­ready headed one chance against the cross­bar, then put Southamp­ton ahead af­ter half an hour, with an adept fin­ish hav­ing

PREMIER LEAGUE latched on to a mis­placed shot from Arm­strong.

Ever­ton were level just be­fore half-time, with Lu­cas Digne’s long ball con­trolled with one touch by Richarli­son and ham­mered past Alex McCarthy.

Chances were at a pre­mium af­ter the in­ter­val, with Do­minic Calvert-Lewin fluff­ing one chance for the hosts when he failed to con­nect prop­erly with Tom Davies’ di­ag­o­nal pass.

Ever­ton and Southamp­ton, who were both in the bot­tom three ear­lier in the sea­son, re­main in 11th and 12th place re­spec­tively in the Premier League ta­ble.
