End of an era for Froome as he leaves Ineos for leading Israel Start-Up role
FOUR-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome will join the Israel Start-Up Nation team in 2021 after losing his status as the leader of Team Ineos.
Froome’s contract with Ineos expires in December and the team have decided not to renew it, ending a decade-long association.
Ineos boss Dave Brailsford said: ‘Given his achievements in the sport, Chris is understandably keen to have sole team leadership in the next chapter of his career, which is not something we’re able to guarantee at this point.’
Froome, who has signed an open-ended deal with his new team, said: ‘It has been a phenomenal decade with the team, we have achieved so much together and I will always treasure the memories.’
In a statement, Israel Start-Up Nation said the Briton will ‘wear ISN’s blue and white until the end of his illustrious career’.
