‘THIS WAS A DIRE SITUATION’, SAYS HAMMER

RMIE HAMMER went into therapy following the ‘seismic’ breakdown of his ten-year marriage.

He admits his midpandemic split from actress Elizabeth Chambers hasn’t been easy as the couple try to shield their children Harper, five, and three-year-old Ford.

The Call Me By Your Name star admitted: ‘I don’t think you’ll find anyone in the world who would ever say what I’m going through is an easy thing to go through.

‘A separation like this is a seriously seismic event in someone’s life. And there’s a lot of shifting and a lot of growing pains and a lot of changes.

‘Change is not a bad thing always but that doesn’t mean it’s painless.’

Armie, 34, now proudly sporting a Hulk Hogan-style moustache, continued to GQ: ‘Elizabeth and I are two adults making this decision and the priority is how do we do it in a way that affects our children the least?’

After the split, the Hollywood star went to the Cayman Islands to clear his head, after which he ended up working on a building

site. It was a mate who shipped him off to therapy. ‘I was more or less on my own, just trying to get through it,’ he said. ‘I knew I was not doing a very good job so I called my buddy in the States.’

The friend, who worked in mental health, recommended a therapist and Armie started having sessions twice a week.

‘It just sort of regulated everything and gave me the tools for dealing with things,’ he said. ‘I’ve been in therapy before but this was a dire situation. And now I just think everyone needs to be in therapy, period, across the board.’ Meanwhile, there could be a wait for the sequel to his 2017 gay love flick with Timothée Chalamet. Speaking about Call Me By Your Name’s followup, Find Me, he explained: ‘We haven’t got into it. I haven’t even read the book.’ Read the full interview in the November issue of GQ, out tomorrow.
