Metro (UK)

AND ANOTHER THING...

I enjoyed Friday’s article about Amanda Holden (right) and thought she looked absolutely stunning in the pink dress. She’s a class act and so is Metro! Dionne, Darlington

I agree with Mike (MetroTalk, Fri) that many older people are not acquainted with smartphones and computers, so need to be kept informed by phone and letter. An example is the requirement to book free, timed entry tickets for London museums, where only a handful, such as the Estorick Collection, appear to be offering telephone booking as an alternative to the online method. This means a significant section of the community is being denied access.

■ It’s very good that 631 Asda stores are to be taken over by Blackburn businessmen Zuber and Mohsin Issa. Asda would be well advised to match its competitors in the hard-fought market by adopting British suppliers so they can claim all their meat and fish is sourced from British supply. In response to M from Aylesbury, who hankers for the idyllic times of self-sufficiency (MetroTalk, Mon), the problem is that the world is far more complicated. We have massive industrial just-in-time supply chains that make sure our food is delivered safely to our tables at a price we can afford. This involves global supplies of products. We don’t have Yorkshire tea fields or Cornish rice paddies. Neil Dance, Birmingham

It’s no wonder Transport for London is seeking another bailout from the government. I reported a barrier jumper to the barrier attendant and got the reply, ‘It’s Stratford, what do you expect?’ If this is the attitude of TfL staff, it’s no surprise they’re in trouble. James, London
