TRUMP BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE

- By DANIEL BINNS

I haven’t felt better in 20 years, says US president

DONALD TRUMP was last night due to leave the military hospital where he has been treated for coronavirus, saying: ‘I feel better than I did 20 years ago!’

The US president, 74, was set to return to the White House from the Walter Reed Medical Center, where he was admitted on Friday.

He tweeted: ‘Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life.’

Mr Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, told reporters: ‘He’s back.’

However, he also warned that the president, who was admitted after suffering a fever and low oxygen levels in his blood, ‘ may not be entirely out of the woods’.

Dr Conley said Mr Trump would continue to receive world-class medical care in the White House.

Earlier, the president had released a string of tweets – all in capital letters – urging Americans to vote in the election on November 3.

It came after critics attacked his decision to leave the hospital briefly on Sunday so he could be driven outside the hospital in Maryland to wave to his supporters. Dr James Phillips, an attending physician at the hospital, called the stunt ‘insanity’ and said his protection staff would have to be quarantined.

Mr Trump’s press secretary Kayleigh McEnany (pictured) became the latest member of his inner circle to be infected. In a statement, Ms McEnany, who is showing no symptoms, said she had been tested every day since Thursday but had not received a positive result until Monday and would now go into quarantine.

Two colleagues in the White House press department, Chad Gilmartin and Karoline Leavitt, were also diagnosed on Monday.

First lady Melania Trump, who is isolating at the White House after also being diagnosed with coronavirus, said she was ‘feeling good and will continue to rest at home’. Two housekeepers at the White House, who had not come into direct contact with the Trump family, have also tested positive, according to The New York Times.

Joe Biden’s campaign said the Democrat presidential candidate had again tested negative after concerns he might have been exposed during last Tuesday’s debate with Mr Trump.

The US has recorded more than 210,000 Covid-19 deaths and 7million cases.
