■ BRIDE SAVES DAD’S LIFE ON WEDDING DANCEFLOOR

- By LAURA ELVIN

A BRIDE saved her father’s life after he collapsed and stopped breathing while dancing to Queen at her wedding.

Kim Leary almost saw ‘the best day ever turn into the worst’ when John Douglas suddenly fell ‘like a sack of potatoes’ as he strutted his stuff to Bohemian Rhapsody at about midnight.

‘His legs went from under him. I thought he had had a heart attack,’ said Kim. But the 37-year-old nurse, still wearing her ‘huge princess dress’, was quickly on hand to give him the kiss of life at the reception.

‘I put my cheek to his face to feel for breaths and there was none,’ she said. ‘I was in autopilot and just thinking of him like another patient.’

She managed to revive her dad, who was rushed to A&E – then spent her wedding night at his bedside with new husband Iain, also 37.

John, 65, who had previous heart problems, was declared stable at around 4.30am and was discharged from the Countess of Chester Hospital after five days.

Paramedics said he was lucky to have survived after the combination of his medication, drinks and dancing had caused his blood pressure to plummet.

Kim, a mum from Chester, said: ‘Thank God he didn’t die. You can’t undo your wedding day.

‘It would have turned the best day ever into the worst day ever.

‘I did joke with dad that I was glad he saved it for midnight and not when I was walking down the aisle.

‘He never dances and doesn’t really drink. He must have exerted himself that much dancing to Queen – now he wants Another One Bites The Dust at his funeral.’
