SARITA’S HOTEL-TO-HOME STYLE TIPS

-

Utilise what you already have in storage (like my baskets from the loft). Lockdown was the perfect time for me to rifle through, seeing what we could use and what we should get rid of.

Choose a few accessories with pops of colour and place against a backdrop of earthy, neutral tones for a soothing, escapist environment.

Give items a dual purpose. The cushions on our garden seating have been brought into the dining area for the benches now that summer is over. We don’t need two sets of cushions as they double up. Create the ultimate boutique hotel look by choosing differentsized cushions and layer sofas and chairs with different textiles, throws and blankets.

Experiment with colour in one small area – if you like it, you can go large. A fire surround can look great in bright yellow if you want it to stand out, or paint it the same colour as the walls if it’s unsightly so it blends into the background.

Forage locally. I have vases full of thistles and cow parsley found in nearby fields. Hotels order fresh flowers every week but dried hydrangeas work well displayed at different heights and they look super stylish.

Head for Zara Home and John Lewis at the end of the sales – I’ve found gorgeous discontinued vases for a tenner! H&M is one of my favourite home stores for fab, on-trend accessories that won’t break the bank.

Don’t be scared to put panelling into a room with low ceilings. It really works and gives a cosy hotel library or lobby feel.
